Teachers and Students! If you are a teacher of
secondary school students or a student in
junior or senior high school in Alberta, our Human Rights Education Project is for you.
But for everyone else also - this project provides handbooks and manuals that anyone would find interesting. Also, we have a Human Rights Education Library that anyone with an interest in human rights would find especially helpful.

Teaching materials:
- complement the current curriculum for Grades 7 and up in Alberta;
- can be used in several subject areas;
- include instruction on:
- international human rights instruments;
- the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
- federal and provincial human rights legislation;
- depending on the subject, include:
- a teacher's guide and lesson plans;
- student materials such as booklets;
- videos suitable for secondary students on various topics
The Staff
Melissa Luhtanen is the person responsible for developing new materials and she contributes to the teaching. Two other contract educators, Pamela Dos Ramos and Elizabeth Seale, also teach. The teachers are not only available to schools but also will teach teachers about human rights through presentations at teachers' conventions, in-service training, and professional development, and through participation in teachers' groups and networks.
